Posture is important, it can not be stressed enough. Structure is Function- from the side ones head (ear) should line up with the back of the edge of the shoulder, and be directly over the hip. If it is NOT you have a postural issue, which usually is such a gradual issue that you do not know it until you look like the guy walking bent over. What happens first when the posture goes…
- Head tilt… The HEAD MOVES FORWARD which makes the Center of Gravity shift forward. Your head basically weighs 10 lbs. Try carrying a bowling ball away from your body all day. Very exhausting and heavy.
- which make your body COMPENSATE. The upper body drifts backwards.
- which makes your body now COMPENSATE for the upper body shift backwards and the hips tilt forward.
- So, the forward head position can be the start of a host of problems- headaches, neck and back pain and premature degenerative boney changes called arthritis.
- Plus… you look just plain awful.
Who to see for this? Chiropractors are your first choice… especially if they also work on the TMJ. Acupuncture can be helpful also, especially for pain. The experts though are the Chiropractors. If, you are structural sound, then see a Dentist who specializes in TMJ and can diagnose if the problem is ascending/descending (going up/down the body). If they cannot do that, find one who can. Diet has to be looked at… regarding this aspect, you can always ask me! My basic rule- NO sugar.
